Red LEDs or a red filter provide low glare light. Ideal for maintaining natural night vision.

This is a feature usually found on military equipment. By illuminating the scene with red light the user is able to see, but at the same time their eyes remain accustomed to darkness. They are not left temporarily fumbling in a sea of inky blackness when the light is switched off.

Also useful when sharing a tent or caravan. The low glare light is less likely to wake your companions if you have to get up in the middle of the night.
